The Power of Play: Learning English by Doing//El poder del juego: aprender inglés haciendo

At Hello Academy, I believe the best way to learn a language is to live it—and for children, that means learning through play. In my recent activity, students built a house together. It may look like just a fun game, but it’s much more than that. As they chose where to put a “door,” discussed the shape of the “roof,” or added a “wall,” they were actively using and learning new vocabulary in a meaningful context.

When kids engage with materials, collaborate with peers, and express themselves during a playful task, the language becomes real. They’re not memorizing words—they’re using them to create, solve problems, and connect with others. This kind of hands-on, playful learning boosts confidence, reinforces vocabulary, and builds communication skills naturally.

En Hello Academy creo que la mejor forma de aprender un idioma es vivirlo—y para los niños, eso significa aprender jugando. En una de nuestras actividades recientes, los estudiantes construyeron una casa juntos. Puede parecer solo un juego divertido, pero es mucho más que eso. Al elegir dónde poner una “puerta”, hablar sobre la forma del “techo” o agregar una “pared”, estaban usando y aprendiendo nuevo vocabulario en un contexto significativo.

Cuando los niños manipulan materiales, colaboran con otros y se expresan durante una actividad lúdica, el idioma se vuelve real. No están memorizando palabras: las están usando para crear, resolver problemas y conectarse con los demás. Este tipo de aprendizaje activo y con sentido fortalece la confianza, refuerza el vocabulario y fomenta la comunicación de manera natural.
